Range — Hygiene and bath

Soap and bath product manufacturing in Tunisia

Soap manufacturing: bar and liquid soaps, shower gels, bubble baths, deodorants and hand care. All the ranges are manufactured on our site in Tunisia, with our own equipment.

The range

Everyday products, a chemistry to choose.

Shower gels, bar and liquid soaps, bubble baths, deodorants, hand creams: the hygiene and bath range brings together everyday products, the ones your customers rebuy without thinking and yet compare from the first use. For a brand, a pharmacy or a distributor, the challenge is twofold: offering a washing sensation and a fragrance that build loyalty, and ensuring a formula that is stable, well packaged and compliant with the destination market. This is the specification we build with you.

It all starts with a choice of chemistry. A saponified soap and a syndet base are not manufactured in the same way, do not have the same pH and do not give the same feel. The format matters just as much: bar, liquid soap in a pump bottle, shower gel or bubble bath each impose their own constraints of lather, viscosity and compatibility with the container. We help you settle these points from the brief, before launching development.

All the ranges are manufactured on our site in Tunisia, with our own equipment, in line with cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practice. You can start from a ready-to-launch private label formula, develop a custom private label or ask for a custom formulation, then entrust filling and packaging to the same team. COSMOS, Ecocert, Vegan and Halal certifications are available on request, and we prepare the product information files and the CPNP notifications for sale in the European Union.

Expertise

Our soap and bath manufacturing expertise

Soap or syndet, bar or liquid, rinse-off product or not: each technical choice in the range rests on regulatory texts and scientific reviews that we cite below.

Soaps, baths and deodorants: cosmetic products

The European regulation on cosmetic products expressly cites toilet soaps, deodorant soaps and bath and shower preparations (salts, foams, oils, gels), as well as deodorants and anti-perspirants. They therefore fall within the same regulatory framework as the creams, lotions and other skin care products cited in the same list.

Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, recital 7 (original text) (new tab)

Saponified soap or syndet base: two chemistries

A soap is a salt of long-chain fatty acids obtained by saponification; it comes notably as superfatted soap, richer in lipids. A syndet base relies on synthetic surfactants, such as fatty acid isethionates or sulphosuccinic esters, whose structure can be tailored to the desired property.

Mukhopadhyay, Indian Journal of Dermatology, 2011: “Evolution of modern day cleansers” (new tab)

pH: alkaline for soap, adjustable for syndet

Saponification uses a strong base and always gives a very alkaline product, whereas the skin has a slightly acidic pH, between 4.0 and 6.0. According to this review, the pH of a soap is generally between 8.5 and 11.0, that of a syndet between 5.5 and 7.0, because its manufacturing process allows it to be adjusted.

Mijaljica, Spada and Harrison, Molecules, 2022, § 2.1.4 (role of pH) (new tab)

Bar or liquid: the choice of base

For a saponified soap, the base used determines the consistency of the product: caustic soda gives a bar soap, potash a liquid soap. Soaps and syndets alike then come as bars, gels, creams or cleansing lotions, depending on the intended use.

Mijaljica, Spada and Harrison, Molecules, 2022, § 2.1.2 (chemistry) and § 2.1.5 (new tab)

Shower gels and bubble baths: balancing lather and mildness

Anionic surfactants offer the strongest cleansing power and abundant lather, appreciated in most cleansing products. They are most often combined with amphoteric or non-ionic surfactants for greater mildness: this is the balance adjusted in a shower gel or a bubble bath.

Mijaljica, Spada and Harrison, Molecules, 2022, § 2.1.5 (surfactants) (new tab)

Rinse-off products, leave-on products

The safety assessment applies a retention factor that takes rinsing into account: it is reduced for a shower gel, a rinse-off product, and equals 1 for a non-spray deodorant, which stays on the skin; hand soap is also classed among rinse-off products. The distinction also affects fragrance labelling: the listed allergens must appear on the label above 0.001% in a leave-on product and 0.01% in a rinse-off product.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Saponified soap or syndet base: which to choose for my brand?

The two do not come from the same chemistry: soap is obtained by saponifying oils or fats with a strong base, syndet relies on synthetic surfactants. Soap is alkaline, while the pH of a syndet can be adjusted closer to that of the skin. The choice therefore depends on the positioning, the desired sensation and the intended selling price: we set it with you from the brief, before any development.

What pH should a gentle cleanser aim for?

The skin has a slightly acidic pH, between 4.0 and 6.0 according to a review published in 2022 in Molecules. The same review puts the pH of a soap generally between 8.5 and 11.0 and that of a syndet between 5.5 and 7.0. If a pH close to that of the skin is part of your specification, a syndet base is therefore the option to study.

Bar soap or liquid soap: what changes in manufacturing?

For a saponified soap, the base used makes the difference: soda gives a bar soap, potash a liquid soap. The liquid format adds the question of the container: we recommend never ordering your bottles before validating their compatibility with the formula, and testing the formula-container pairing before launching the full order.

How is the lather of a bubble bath or a shower gel adjusted?

Lather comes mainly from anionic surfactants, which also have the strongest cleansing power. They are combined with amphoteric or non-ionic surfactants for greater mildness. The right balance depends on the texture and the sensation you want: it is adjusted during the development of the formula.

Can a deodorant or a deodorant soap be sold in the European Union from Tunisia?

Yes: Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 cites deodorant soaps, deodorants and anti-perspirants among cosmetic products. Manufacturing in Tunisia does not exempt from the requirements of the destination market: you need a Responsible Person established in the EU, a product information file with a safety assessment, a compliant composition and labelling, and a CPNP notification before marketing. We prepare the product information files and the CPNP notifications; define your countries of sale from the brief.

Cosmetic brand name: how to choose, check and protect it in Tunisia

A good cosmetic brand name is distinctive, available and registrable. It is chosen in four steps: define the positioning, create the name, check prior rights with INNORPI, then register the trade mark. The name must also respect the rules on claims, as Commission Regulation (EU) No 655/2013 covers names and trade marks. Tunisian registration only protects you in Tunisia: plan for export from the start.

Halal cosmetics: certification and markets to know before exporting

Halal cosmetics are products formulated and manufactured according to halal rules: no ethyl alcohol, no non-compliant animal-derived ingredients, no animal testing. A cosmetic is not halal by default. The brand documents the formula, the raw materials and the process, then chooses a certifier recognised in the target country. Indonesia extends its requirements to cosmetics from 18 October 2026.
