The manufacture of food supplements is governed by precise texts — European directives, Tunisian regulations, national texts of the country of sale. Our formulations, our labelling and our claims are validated internally by our regulatory department.
For each product, we put together a complete technical file: detailed composition, raw material specifications, manufacturing procedure, analytical tests, nutrition labelling, authorised claims, administrative notifications. This file supports you with your marketing authorisations and your exports.

Food supplement manufacturing: a food, not a medicine
Directive 2002/46/EC (new tab), the European reference text, defines food supplements as “foodstuffs the purpose of which is to supplement the normal diet”. They are concentrated sources of nutrients or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect, sold in dose form: capsules, pastilles, tablets, sachets of powder, ampoules or drop dispensing bottles.
Consequence: the product falls under food law, not under the law on medicinal products, which the Directive excludes from its scope. It is delivered to the consumer pre-packaged, and its presentation must remain that of a food.

The information to gather before consulting us
The country of sale counts as much as the formula, because it is the country that sets the procedure for placing on the market. If possible, prepare:
- the desired form: capsule, tablet, gummy, powder or ampoule
- the nutrients and substances envisaged, with no dosage fixed at this stage
- the target audience and the positioning, beauty or well-being
- the countries of sale
- the packaging format and the planned quantities
The service
Labelling: the particulars required by Directive 2002/46/EC
The product is sold under the name “food supplement”. The amounts of nutrients are declared in numerical form, per portion recommended for daily consumption, and the label bears at least:
- the names of the categories of nutrients or substances that characterise the product
- the portion recommended for daily consumption
- a warning not to exceed this dose
- a statement that the product is not a substitute for a varied diet
- a warning to keep it out of the reach of young children

What a food supplement cannot claim
Article 6 is unambiguous: the labelling, presentation and advertising do not attribute to these products “the property of preventing, treating or curing a human disease”. Article 7 also prohibits implying that a balanced and varied diet is not enough. Any therapeutic promise is therefore to be excluded from the label as from communication, and the wording is worked on from the design stage.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can any form of vitamin or mineral be used?
No. Under Article 4 of Directive 2002/46/EC, only the vitamins and minerals listed in its Annex I, in the forms listed in Annex II, may be used in the manufacture of a food supplement. Sources are therefore chosen when the project is assessed, before any trial, taking into account the countries where the product will be sold.
Does a food supplement have to be notified before it goes on sale?
It depends on the country. Directive 2002/46/EC allows each Member State to require the manufacturer or the person placing the product on the market to notify the competent authority, by forwarding it a model of the labelling. National procedures differ: state your countries of sale in the brief so that the file and the label are prepared accordingly.
Can supplements and cosmetic care products be combined in the same brand?
Yes, but they are two separate regimes. A care product falls under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, with a product information file and CPNP notification; a supplement falls under food law and Directive 2002/46/EC. Each product therefore has its own file and its own label. For the cosmetic side, see our skincare range and our brand development support.
How do I get a manufacturing quote?
Send the information listed above from the quote page, or write to us via the contact page. The price depends on the product, the actives and the packaging; the quote is free and we reply to requests within 48 working hours. The more precise your brief is about the form and the countries of sale, the more precise the costing will be.
